What it does
Verkada sells cloud-managed cameras, access control, environmental sensors, intercoms and alarms on one platform called Command. Safety features it markets to logistics and industrial buyers include PPE detection, automatic archiving and alerts for slip-and-fall incidents, and combined conditions such as alerting only when a person enters a forklift zone without a safety vest. Its air quality sensors track noise, temperature, humidity, heat index, particulates and volatile organic compounds, with SMS alerts at set thresholds. It also offers cameras mounted on forklifts and other industrial vehicles, connected through a vehicle gateway.
Who it is for
Verkada's main buyers are security, IT and facilities teams in many sectors, including logistics, manufacturing, retail, education and healthcare. For safety teams, it is most relevant when the organization already uses or plans to use Verkada for security and wants to add safety alerts on the same cameras. It was founded in 2016 and is headquartered in San Mateo, California.
How it is deployed
Verkada supplies its own cameras and devices, which store footage locally and are managed through its cloud. A site with a large estate of third-party cameras would generally need to replace or supplement them to use Verkada's analytics. Safety detections are part of a general video platform, so buyers should compare the depth of safety reporting and EHS workflow integration with specialist vendors.
Notable public customers and coverage
Verkada announced a $200 million Series E led by General Catalyst in February 2025 at a $4.5 billion valuation. In December 2025 it announced a round led by CapitalG, which CNBC reported at $100 million, valuing the company at $5.8 billion. At that time Verkada said it served more than 30,000 organizations, had more than 2 million devices deployed in 171 countries, and had passed $1 billion in annualized bookings. Logistics customers named on its website include McLane, Yusen Logistics and IFC Global. In 2021 Verkada suffered a widely reported security breach of its camera systems, which security reviewers may raise.
Things to ask in an evaluation
- Which safety detections are generally available, and how are they tuned per camera?
- How do safety events reach your EHS system, and in what format?
- What would it cost to cover your safety-critical areas with Verkada cameras?
- What security controls and audits are in place, and what changed after the 2021 incident?
- Who can view footage of workers, and how is that access logged?
- How do forklift camera footage and fixed camera footage combine in an investigation?
