What it does

Triax Technologies makes Spot-r, a real-time location system (RTLS) for industrial and construction sites. Workers wear a small tag, originally sold as the Spot-r Clip, that connects to a mesh network installed on site rather than relying on GPS. The system shows where workers are, sends slip, trip and fall alerts to supervisors, and lets workers report hazards or injuries with a button on the device. Supervisors can trigger site-wide evacuation alerts, and digital mustering shows who is still inside during an emergency. Spot-r EquipTag tracks equipment location, operator identity and utilization. Invixium, the current owner, describes the offering as a mix of devices including wearables and AI-enabled cameras, networks, applications and analytics.

Who it is for

Spot-r began in construction and now targets oil and gas, manufacturing, chemical processing, mining and energy. It suits sites where knowing who is on site and where matters for emergencies, lone work and labor tracking, especially large or multi-level projects where GPS performs poorly.

How it is deployed

Deployment involves installing wireless relays and gateways around the site to form the mesh network, issuing tags to workers and equipment, and configuring zones and alerts in a cloud dashboard. Invixium says the hardware is industrial grade and designed for harsh environments, with intrinsically safe options for hazardous areas. Because the system tracks individual workers, sites need clear policies on what location data is collected, who sees it and how long it is kept, and in unionized workplaces this will usually need consultation.

Notable public customers and coverage

Triax was founded in 2012. Spot-r received a Business Insurance Innovation Award in October 2017. In July 2024 Invixium, a Toronto-based biometric access control and workforce management company, announced that it had acquired Triax, which was then based in Norwalk, Connecticut; financial terms were not disclosed. Invixium says Spot-r delivers 50% faster evacuation and a 10% increase in labor productivity. These are vendor claims, and the published material does not explain how they were measured. The acquisition announcement did not name customers.

Things to ask in an evaluation

  • How much relay and gateway hardware does your site need, and how is it moved as a construction site changes?
  • How accurate is location on your site, by zone, floor or meter?
  • How is fall detection tuned, and what is the false alarm rate in practice?
  • How do the 50% evacuation and 10% productivity figures break down, and what was the baseline?
  • What location history is stored per worker, who can access it, and can it be used for discipline?
  • How is Spot-r integrating with Invixium's biometric access control, and what is the product roadmap?
