What it does

Samsara sells a connected operations platform built around vehicle telematics, AI dash cameras, equipment monitoring and workflow apps. For safety, its core products detect risky driving, coach drivers and provide video for collision review. In 2021 it launched Site Visibility, which brings AI video search and alerts to cameras at fixed sites, with examples such as people in unsafe locations or after-hours activity. In September 2025 it announced weather intelligence, AI-powered automated coaching, and worker safety features in its driver app and wearable, including a one-click SOS that shares live camera footage with managers.

Who it is for

Samsara serves organizations with large vehicle fleets and field operations: transportation, construction, energy, utilities, public sector, field services and retail. For site safety buyers it is most relevant where vehicles and yards are the main risk, or where Samsara is already installed in the fleet. It was founded in 2015 by Sanjit Biswas and John Bicket and is headquartered in San Francisco. Its category here is "Other" because it spans telematics and video.

How it is deployed

Vehicle cameras and gateways are Samsara hardware, connected to its cloud. Site Visibility uses a site gateway that Samsara says can pull in streams from existing third-party IP cameras, as well as Samsara's own cameras. The safety detection library for fixed sites is narrower than that of specialist AI video safety vendors, so check which detections are available for your use case.

Notable public customers and coverage

Samsara listed on the New York Stock Exchange in December 2021 under the ticker IOT. For the fiscal year ended January 31, 2026 it reported revenue of $1,618.6 million and $1.9 billion in annual recurring revenue, up 30% year over year in constant currency. In its results the company said its platform helped prevent 380,000 accidents in fiscal 2026; this is a company estimate, not an independently verified figure. As a public company it files audited financial statements with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

Things to ask in an evaluation

  • Which safety detections are available for fixed-site cameras, as distinct from vehicle cameras?
  • How do site and fleet safety events appear together, and can they feed your EHS system?
  • How does the "accidents prevented" figure get calculated?
  • What driver and worker privacy controls exist, and how are coaching records used in discipline?
  • What are the contract terms for hardware, and what happens to devices at renewal?
  • How does Samsara's wearable compare with dedicated lone-worker devices?
