What it does
GemOne sells telematics for industrial machines and says it has more than 100,000 connected assets worldwide [1]. Its safety product is Sapphire, a fleet and safety management system for forklifts and other material handling equipment. GemOne says Sapphire provides on-screen pre-start checklists that can lock out a machine with a critical fault, operator access control by PIN, RFID card or fob, impact alerts with custom lockout thresholds, and automatic lockout of operators whose certifications have expired [2]. Optional add-ons include HD cameras for blind spots and an AI camera that GemOne says detects pedestrians within about 25 feet and gives the driver audible and visual warnings, recording continuously while the truck is keyed on [3]. A second product, Onyx, serves rental and construction fleets, and GemOne says both systems support impact detection and operator access control [4].
Who it is for
GemOne targets warehouse, logistics and health and safety managers running material handling fleets, along with equipment dealers who resell telematics, and rental companies [1][5]. It says Sapphire works on any make or model, which suits mixed-brand fleets [2].
How it is deployed
A telematics unit and a 7-inch Android touchscreen are fitted to each truck, with access readers and optional cameras and load sensors connected to the display [2]. Data flows to GemOne Cloud, a web platform for reports, alerts and dashboards, which GemOne says can also take data from other telematics providers and connect to ERP, invoicing, rental planning and service software [6]. The contract terms include a GDPR data processing agreement that names Google Cloud and TVH Parts Holding as sub-processors [7]. GemOne lists offices in Belgium, Olathe (Kansas) and Richlands (Queensland) [8].
Notable public customers and coverage
GemOne NV is registered in Waregem, Belgium, and describes itself as an affiliate of TVH Parts Holding NV [9]. Forkliftaction News reported in January 2019 that TVH Australia had bought Global Equipment Monitoring (GEM), a Sydney telematics firm with almost 10 years of history, on undisclosed terms [10]. TVH's timeline dates the establishment of GEM One nv to 2019 [11]. GemOne's named case study is Atlas Toyota Material Handling, a US Midwest dealer; the outcomes it reports are qualitative [12]. A 2025 buyer guide from forklift marketplace 123Forklift ranked Sapphire third among forklift telematics systems [13]. A 2024 ABI Research report on lift truck telematics includes a section on GemOne; the report is paywalled [15]. We found no user reviews on GetApp [14].
Things to ask in an evaluation
- What detection accuracy and false alarm rates has the AI camera shown, and how were they tested?
- Does any warning reach pedestrians, or only the driver?
- Who can view camera footage and operator session data, and how long is it kept?
- How does the license in the terms to use de-identified equipment data apply to your fleet [7]?
- What does retrofit cost per truck, and what are the subscription fees?
- Which EHS or ERP systems can receive impact and checklist data?
Our take
Strengths
- One retrofit system combines access control, pre-start checks, impact lockout and certification checks on any make of forklift [2].
- Contract terms, a data processing agreement, sub-processors and the legal entity are public [7][9].
Watch-outs
- Pedestrian detection is backed only by vendor specifications, with no published accuracy method [3].
- No user reviews or independent test results; analyst coverage is limited to a paywalled market report, and the named case study has no measured results [12][14][15].
- Cameras record continuously, and no operator privacy controls are documented [3].
Best fit: Mixed-brand forklift fleets, or dealers serving them, that want operator access control, digital checklists and impact lockout first, with AI pedestrian warnings tested in a pilot.
