What it does

Enablon is an integrated software platform for environment, health and safety, operational risk and ESG. Verdantix describes it as covering incident management, process safety, control of work (permits and isolations for hazardous tasks), environmental compliance, health and safety programs, audits, operational risk management, chemical management, analytics with AI capabilities and ESG reporting. Its process safety and control of work modules set it apart from tools aimed mainly at incident logging, since they address major accident hazards in high-hazard plants.

Who it is for

Enablon targets large enterprises in asset-intensive industries such as oil and gas, chemicals, energy, mining and heavy manufacturing. Verdantix says it is used in more than 160 countries. When Wolters Kluwer bought the company in 2016, Enablon said its platform was used by more than 1,000 companies and 1 million users in 160 countries.

How it is deployed

Enablon is sold mainly as cloud software, and Verdantix lists on-premise deployment as an option. Verdantix describes the architecture as cloud native and modular with mobile field apps, and lists Microsoft and EY as partners. Enterprise rollouts usually take place in phases by module and region, often with a systems integrator, and involve configuring workflows, migrating legacy records and connecting ERP, HR and maintenance systems.

Notable public customers and coverage

Enablon launched in 2000. Wolters Kluwer, the Dutch information services group, made a binding offer of €250 million in May 2016 and completed the purchase on July 1, 2016. At the time Enablon was based in Courbevoie, near Paris, with a North American office in Chicago and about 340 employees, and it reported software and services revenue of about €45 million for 2015. Verdantix named Enablon a Leader in its 2025 Green Quadrant for EHS software, alongside Benchmark Gensuite, Cority, Evotix, Intelex, Sphera and VelocityEHS. Wolters Kluwer says Enablon was again a Leader in the 2026 edition, its eighth consecutive recognition in that series since 2014, and it has also been named a Leader in the Verdantix Green Quadrant for process safety management software.

Things to ask in an evaluation

  • Which modules do you need now, and which will you add later, and how does licensing change?
  • How mature are the control of work and process safety modules for your type of facility?
  • What AI features are available today, and how is your data used to build or improve them?
  • What connectors exist for camera analytics, wearables or sensor events?
  • Who are the certified implementation partners in your region, and what is a realistic timeline?
  • Which on-premise or data residency options apply if you operate in regulated jurisdictions?
