What it does
Coram sells a cloud-managed video security platform that now also covers access control, visitor and emergency management [1]. Its safety alerts include trespassing, loitering, crowd detection, line crossing and proximity alerts [6]. Coram says it can flag missing hard hats, vests, gloves or masks, blocked exits and zone entries, with custom detections such as "forklift in pedestrian zone" [7]. It released slip and fall detection as a beta in February 2025 [8], and in October 2025 said it had reduced false positives for firearm, PPE and slip and fall alerts [9]. Its Discover search finds footage from plain-language descriptions, indexed on the on-site device [10].
Who it is for
Coram's material targets schools, churches, healthcare and multi-site businesses, including manufacturing [1][12]. It is a security platform first, with a smaller safety detection set than specialist vendors. The company is based in Sunnyvale, California, and was co-founded by CEO Ashesh Jain and CTO Peter Ondruska, both formerly of Lyft's autonomous driving unit [2][3].
How it is deployed
The Coram Point AI NVR (network video recorder) connects to existing IP cameras over ONVIF, stores video locally and runs detection on NVIDIA accelerators, with cloud and mobile access (4 to 80 feeds per unit) [4]. Coram also sells its own NDAA-compliant cameras, but says any camera with an RTSP stream can be connected [5]. Pricing is quoted per camera count and model [4]. Coram says it is SOC 2 Type II audited and HIPAA compliant, and that event processing happens on the device [11].
Notable public customers and coverage
Coram raised a $13.8 million Series A led by Battery Ventures in January 2025 [2] and a $35 million Series B co-led by Ansa Capital and Battery Ventures in June 2026, for $66 million in total [1]. It says more than 1,500 locations use the platform [1]. Named customers include Hershey's Ice Cream and Salem High School [1], plus manufacturers Hy-Lok USA and Parker Wellbore [12]. Coram says Hershey's uses it to find the moment a metal detector triggers within minutes instead of discarding whole production runs; this is a vendor claim [1]. In December 2025 the trade publication IPVM reported that Coram ranked first in at least twelve "best access control" articles with no disclosed sponsorship; Coram did not respond [13].
Things to ask in an evaluation
- Which safety detections (PPE, slip and fall, proximity) are generally available rather than beta or custom, and at what license tier?
- What precision and recall figures exist for each safety detection, and how were they measured?
- How do safety events reach your EHS system: webhooks, Slack, Teams or an API [9]?
- What happens to local recording and alerts if the cloud connection drops?
Our take
Strengths
- Adds AI search and alerts to existing ONVIF or RTSP cameras through an on-site recorder, so a camera replacement is not required [4][5].
- Publishes monthly release notes that track safety detections such as slip and fall and PPE, plus webhook integrations [8][9].
- Discloses funding, leadership and HQ, and claims SOC 2 Type II [1][3][11].
Watch-outs
- No public accuracy figures or test method for its safety detections [6][7].
- The safety detection set is narrow and partly beta or custom compared with specialist safety vendors [7][8].
- IPVM reported undisclosed sponsored rankings, so treat third-party "best of" lists about Coram with caution [13].
Best fit: Organizations that want one security platform on their existing cameras, with basic PPE, slip and fall and proximity alerts as a secondary use.
